Charred Wood Cladding

What is cladding?

Wood cladding, also known as siding, is the application of a layer of wood to the outside of a building. Aesthetically speaking it gives your home character and helps connect it to the surrounding landscape for stylish street appeal. Cladding also offers protection and durability for your building.

Wooden cladding is subjected to natural weathering such as UV radiation, rainfall, and cyclic humidity conditions, as well as mould growth and biological degradation. These factors can cause discoloration, cracking, erosion, and dimensional changes. To protect your cladding from the elements Atelier TwentyOne chars all our cladding materials using our Shou Sugi Ban proprietary process.

What is Shou Sugi Ban cladding?

Shou Sugi Ban cladding, also known as charred wood siding, brings an enduringly modern, natural and premium aesthetic to your spaces. This unique Japanese burnt wood siding is created by combining our in-house proprietary process with traditional methods to make a striking product that is perfect for both interiors and exterior cladding. Our range of woods are designed to cater for every exterior aesthetic.

The Benefits Of Atelier TwentyOne Cladding

Complete System

Atelier TwentyOne capitalises on the breadth of knowledge and experience gained working on large-scale commercial and residential construction projects. We can cater for your project needs with a complete cladding system including timber battens, mechanical fixings, membranes, sealers, trims and more.

Low Maintenance

The charcoal surface resulting from the Shou Sugi Ban burnt wood process is highly protective. It creates a layer of carbon that provides higher water and fire resistance, while also deterring rot by making it less desirable to bugs, insects and fungi. The process makes wood stronger by exposing it to the right amount of fire to fuse the timber grains.

Consistently Beautiful Finish

Handcrafted to create an even, charred surface for long-lasting finish. The wood technique allows us to enhance and enrich the natural beauty of the wood, amplifying its unique features.

Sustainable

Atelier TwentyOne is focussed on sustainable methods of sourcing and manufacturing, and passionate about conserving our environment.
